LAKHIMPUR: In a shocking incident that occurred following a quarrel centering round a game of ludo played during a marriage ceremony just to while away time, a youth was stabbed to death around 9:00 pm on Sunday at Maidaniya village near North Lakhimpur town of Lakhimpur district. The deceased youth has been identified as Irsad Ali (22), son of Wajid Ali, resident of the village, while the accused has been identified as Afjat Ali (24), son of Muslim Ali, resident of the same village. Sources said that some youths, who attended a marriage party in the household of a resident of the village, were playing ludo just to pass time. Later some of them fell out over defeat and victory in the game. However, the quarrel did not worsen due to intervention of other attendees of the marriage ceremony.

Irsad's younger brother also took part in the game, but it is not known whether he was involved in the quarrel. Later, getting the information, Irsad went there and asked a person about the quarrel. At that time Afjat Ali approached him and allegedly misbehaved with Irsad, which led to another quarrel between them. Getting information about the quarrel between the two youths, Irsad's father filed a case against Afjat Ali at North Lakhimpur Police Station. Furious over the quarrel and the case filed, Afjat allegedly attacked Irsad with a knife at around 9 pm in the marriage pandal. Irsad reportedly sustained injuries on his mouth, chest and abdomen and breathed his last. Afjat managed to run away. Later, police personnel arrived at the spot and recovered the body. Police have detained one in connection of the incident.
