
Goalpara: Sainik School, Goalpara hosted the grand opening ceremony of the Intra Group “E” Sainik Schools Sports and Cultural Meet 2025, marking the commencement of a vibrant five-day sporting and cultural extravaganza from August 4 to August 8. Nandita Gorlosa, Minister of Sports & Youth Welfare, Welfare of Minorities and Development Department and Public Works Buildings & National Highways Departments, Government of Assam, graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest. Upon her arrival, the minister was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by a contingent comprising 33 nominated cadets of the school. Col Dheeraj Kumar Vishwakarma, Principal, felicitated the minister with a traditional Assamese ‘gamosa’ and a ‘xorai’. The opening ceremony commenced at the school athletics ground, with a warm welcome address delivered by Lt Col Pinaki Maulik, Vice Principal.
The opening ceremony featured an impressive march past by the participating teams, followed by administration of oath to both the players and the match officials, reaffirming their commitment to integrity and excellence. Another highlight of the ceremony was a cultural extravaganza presented by cadets from the participating schools, celebrating the vibrant heritage of the North-East. Declaring the open meet, the minister commended the pivotal role of Sainik Schools in nurturing future leaders of the nation and lauded the spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition fostered by such inter-school sporting and cultural events. The prestigious event will witness enthusiastic participation from a total of 277 cadets of five different Sainik Schools of the North-Eastern region i.e. Sainik School Imphal (Manipur), Sainik School Punglwa (Nagaland), Sainik School Chhingchhip (Mizoram), Sainik School East Siang and the host, Sainik School Goalpara (Assam). This mega event features Basketball (Boys & Girls U-17), Volleyball (Boys U-17) and Athletics (Boys & Girls), along with captivating cultural performances from all the participating schools. The closing ceremony of the meet is scheduled on August 8, during which the winners in different categories will be awarded trophies, medals, and certificates. The top performers from this group meet will earn the honour of representing Group “E” in the All India Sainik Schools Sports and Cultural Meet 2025 to be held at Sainik School Rewa, Madhya Pradesh later this year, stated a press release.
