Over 1,19,179 people of 109 villages affected by floods in Golaghat district

Golaghat: Most of the villages in Golaghat district have been submerged by flood water and people and animals are taking shelter on the roadside and on the highlands. According to official records, over 1,19,179 people of 109 villages under Khumtai, Dergaon, Golaghat and Bokakhat revenue circles in Golaghat district have been affected by floods due to rising water of Brahmaputra and Dhansiri rivers. The flood victims are taking shelter in various relief camps. Several relief camps and shelters have been opened by the district administration.

In Golaghat district, the water level of the Brahmaputra has crossed the danger line by up to 1.99 metres and the Dhansiri river has crossed the danger line by 0.42 metres. Around 24 villages in Khumtai revenue circle, 62 villages in Bokakhat, 8 villages in Golaghat and 19 villages in Dergaon revenue circle have been submerged by flood water. Around 8,632 animals have been affected by flood in Golaghat district.

A part of the PMGSY road of Siristoka, Natun Chapori and Lem Chapori PMGSY road culverts have been eroded by flood water under Dergaon Revenue Circle. The district administration has opened 38 relief material distribution camps and eight medical teams in flood-affected areas of Golaghat district.
