Over 300 Congress supporters join BJP in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: At a time when there is little time left for the upcoming assembly election, erosion in the organizational base has affected the Congress in Dhakuakhana LAC of Lakhimpur district.

On Wednesday, over 300 activists and supporters of Dhakuakhana Congress joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressing their commitment to the ideology of the ruling party. Among them were eminent Congress leader Manik Chutia, the president of Ghilamora Block Congress Committee, who was very close to former Congress cabinet minister Bharat Chandra Narah and Rajya Sabha MP Rani Narah. In addition to him, former Congress president of Dewolia Gaon Panchayat, Manju Chiring, present president Dilip Borah along with the Wward members of the same Gaon Panchayat, leaders and supporters of Youth Congress and Mahila Congress joined the BJP.

On the other hand, central executive body member of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Gagan Saikia also joined the BJP along with over 100 AGP members on the same day.

In this regard, a joining meeting was organized at the Ghilamora Mandal BJP office in the presence of State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley. The minister accorded warm welcome to the newcomers to the BJP by greeting them with gamosa and party cap. The minister appealed to all to strengthen the BJP in order to propel the developmental activities in the Dhakuakhana LAC as well as in the State.
