LAKHIMPUR: "One of the prominent combatants, who combated the crisis, threat against the Assamese literature and language in 19th century was undoubtedly Panindranath Gogoi. Without his tremendous contribution in this regard, the establishment of linguistic nationality of Assamese to overcome the threat would have been a very difficult task," said Dr. Hemanta Kumar Baruah, former Vice-President of Axam Xahitya Xabha, in Lakhimpur on Monday.

Dr. Baruah said so while releasing the 'Panindranath Gogoi Rachanawoli', the collection of the literary creations by noted litterateur Panindranath Gogoi, who was born in Lakhimpur district. He added that the study and research on Panindranath Gogoi had not been conducted in the State as widely as it should be. "Imparting knowledge about him to the upcoming generations is the duty and responsibility of the seniors. I hope, Panindranath Gogoi Rachanawoli will help to contribute in this connection effectively," Dr. Baruah asserted.

The ceremonial programme on the occasion of the release of the book was held at Azad under Lakhimpur district. It was chaired by Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, the Principal of the North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). The book was edited by Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, a prominent columnist, critic-cum- Head of the Department of Assamese in North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous).
