TEZPUR: The pilot project on menstrual hygiene was launched for the welfare of all women and adolescent girls residing in Harchura Tea Estate in Sonitpur district by Goodricke Group, Kolkata in association with VJS Foundation, an NGO from Kolkata in West Bengal to promote health and hygiene especially during menstruation.

The project was formally inaugurated by Bandita Asthana, wife of Atul Asthana, Managing Director of Goodricke Group of Companies at a function organized at the estate which was attended by other dignitaries of the company, representatives of the operating trade unions (ACMS/ACKS), students' unions and associations, staff members, workers and residents of Harchura TE.

The purpose of the project is to spread awareness and educate women and adolescent girls on the subject of menstrual hygiene and to promote the use of sanitary pads which will be made available at a very nominal price by the management through a group of trained women referred to and identified as the 'Blu Angels'.

Addressing the gathering, Bandita Asthana shared memories of her long stay in the various tea estates of Assam. She requested all women and adolescent girls to rise above inhibitions and come forward to embrace the opportunities being provided through this scheme.
