Plantation drive continues in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: As per directives of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, an Urban Forestry Plantation drive was organized at No. 2 Town Primary School, Kamalalaya Kakoti Girls' High School and Rangpur Girls' High School in Sivasagar recently.

Organized jointly by the Forest Department of Sivasagar Division and Income Tax Department of Sivasagar, the plantation drive was attended by Sivasagar DFO Deben Ch. Kalita, Income Officer Ratul Bora, Head Teacher Malobika Gogoi, Head Teacher Lakheswar Gogoi, Regional Forest Officer Bubul Baruah and others. Sixty saplings were planted in the drive. As part of the drive, an awareness meeting was also organized under the chairmanship of Malobika Gogoi.

Earlier, the tree plantation festival was inaugurated by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Megha Nidhi Dahal at Sibsagar Government Higher Secondary & Multi-Purpose School premises in Sivasagar.

Inaugurating the tree plantation festival, the Deputy Commissioner urged the people of the district, especially the residents of the town to devote some time in planting trees. He said that through the celebration of plantation festival, at least 21 rare fruits and medicinal plants, would be planted in each school.
