NAGAON: The closing ceremony of the platinum jubilee celebration of the historic Nowgong College (autonomous), which was held with a two-day long programme, concluded on Saturday evening here at the college premises.
On the closing day on Saturday, a cultural procession was taken out from Nagaon Nurul Amin Stadium which traversed throughout the small town. Hundreds of students, alumni as well as other well wishers participated. The procession was ceremonially flagged off by Jatin Bora, noted Assamese film actor and alumnus of the college. Local MLA Rupak Sarma and vice-chairman of Nagaon municipality board, Simanta Bora also participated in the procession.
Meanwhile, Nayan Moni Saikia, Commonwealth Games gold medalist, attended the open session of the celebration held at the Swahid Anil Bora auditorium of the college as the chief guest. The session was chaired by Dr Sarat Dutta, president of the college management committee, while Dr Bhuban Chandra Chutiya, coordinator to internal quality assurance cell of the college, anchored the session.
Dr Sarat Borkatoki, principal of the college, delivered the welcome address and Jibeswar Goswami, strict follower of Sankari xatra culture and traditions, was present as the guest of honour in the programme.
