MANGALDAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Darrang district on September 8. For the smooth management of his visit, a meeting was held on Monday at the Darrang Deputy Commissioner’s office in the presence of Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Darrang-Udalguri MP Dilip Saikia to discuss preparations.
The Prime Minister’s visit will include laying the foundation stones for the proposed Darrang Medical College, a ring road, the Kuruwa-Narengi bridge, and other key infrastructure projects.
During the meeting, discussions were held to finalize the venue for the event. MP Dilip Saikia proposed forming a committee for this purpose. Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and MP Dilip Saikia will serve as conveners, along with legislators from constituencies within Darrang and nearby districts. The team will inspect the proposed site on June 7 to finalize the location.
Both the Minister and the MP urged all departments to remain prepared for the Prime Minister’s visit. Notably, the ring road and Kuruwa-Narengi bridge projects are estimated to cost Rs 5,000 crore.
Preparations for flood management were also discussed. Minister Patowary and MP Saikia instructed the district administration to closely monitor the flood situation. The Disaster Management Department, Water Resources Department, and other concerned departments were directed to remain on alert and ensure timely relief and supply arrangements during flood situations.
Legislators Diganta Kalita (Kamalpur), Bhabesh Kalita (Rangiya), Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi (Sipajhar), Basanta Das (Mangaldai), former legislator Gurujyoti Das, Deputy Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakaty, Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal, and heads of all departments attended the meeting.
