PM Narendra Modi urged to take stern action against repeated rape cases

KOKRAJHAR: Various students' organizations including ABSU, AJRSU, ASSU, AABYSF, ABBYSF, AHBVP, ABMSU, NEMSU, and AAMSU and Boro Somaj of Salakatini in Kokrajhar district on Monday has sent a joint memorandum to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi through Kokrajhar DC and Assam Governor demanding intervention in the repeated rape incidents and to give stringent punishment to the rapists as early as possible.

In the joint memorandum, the leaders of Salakatini Anchalik Boro Somaj and Salakati Anchalik Committees of ABSU, AKRSU, ASSU, AABYSF, ABBYSF, AHBVP, ABMSU, NEMSU, & AAMSU said they have confidence in the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in bringing justice and social harmony. They have urged the Prime Minister to understand the gravity of the situation of the indigenous people living in different parts of Kokrajhar and Assam with this memorandum.

On May 8, a 16-year-old tribal girl, a resident of Salakati which comes under Salakati Police Outpost became a victim of rape by a youth named Amir Hamja, (24 years). The accused also took objectionable photographs of the victim and made it viral on social media. Though a case has been registered at the police station, but still police authority has been a failure in apprehending the accused.

Before that, on May 6, two minors, belonging to indigenous tribal community, aged 13 and 14 were held captive whole night and gang-raped by three persons under Kokrajhar police station.

Similarly, there is a case on May 23, where a minor girl from Lalkura village which comes under same Salakati Police Outpost was gang-raped by three Muslim young men. The accused were apprehended in this case. The organizations have demanded PM's intervention to stop this heinous crime for the social harmony and safety and security of women.
