MANGALDAI: On the eve of the Republic Day celebration, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has awarded the prestigious Police Medal for Meritorious Service to Darrang Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan.

Three other senior police officers of Assam have also been awarded with this award. A batch of Assam Police Service of 1995, AmritBhuyan, since taking over as the 24th Superintendent of Police of Darrang district, has been taking bold steps in making the district police force an efficient team. While initiating a very tough stand against the organized gang of poachers, drugs peddlers and other anti-social elements, he, at the same time, has been transforming the police as a people-friendly force.

During the recent countrywide lockdown due to COVID-19, he took personal initiative in extending a helping hand to needy people living in far-flung areas by offering food items and medicines at their doorsteps. Besides these activities, AmritBhuyan has also been encouraging and inspiring the youths of the district in taking up agriculture as a means of livelihood. The agri-preneurs of the district who have taken up organic cultivation, have also been highly motivated by him.

On receipt of the news of declaration of award to him, a good number of leading citizens and active youths met him in his office this evening and offered hearty felicitation. Chairman of Mangaldai Development Authority, PratapBordoloi, deputy adviser of Village Defense Organization, MukutSaikia, State award recipient organic farmer, HabibRahman and media person Bhargab Kumar Das offered him felicitation withphulamBihuwan. Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) UjjwalPratimBaruah, Additional Superintendent of Police (Border) PallabiMazumdar and Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) MamaniHazarika also greeted Superintendent of Police AmritBhuyan.
