Popular businessman Biren Kalita from Lachit Nagar passes away

DOOMDOOMA: Biren Kalita, a resident of Lachit Nagar and a popular established local businessman, breathed his last on Thursday evening. He was ailing for some time. He was 68 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. After passing the HSLC examination from Doomdooma Hoonlal HS School, he obtained B. Com degree from Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah College, Jorhat affiliated to Dibrugarh University (DU). He was frontrunner in introducing the private bus service during the 80s of the last century through the tea gardens in the Doomdooma-Digboi route. Besides this, he earned the distinction of an established businessman by starting a hotel in Rupaisiding. He also made his mark as a sportsperson as he played football and badminton. He was also well connected with a number of socio-cultural organizations. His death cast a pall of gloom in greater Doomdooma area and was widely mourned by many organizations, including Rupaisiding Bahumukhi Sangha and Rupai High School.
