TINSUKIA/DOOMDOOMA: As part of Poshan Maah celebration, the Child Development Project Office of Kakopothar Development Block organized a 'Poshan Panchayat' at Bijulibon Gaon Panchayat under Margherita LAC in Tinsukia district recently.

The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the ADC Tinsukia, Sarfraz Haque followed by an awareness rally which was flagged off by the Child Development Project Officer of Kakopothar Development Block Ashim Pachani. The meeting held on this occasion was chaired by the president of Bijulibon Gaon Panchayat, Pramila Ekka. Delivering the inaugural speech, ADC Sarfraz Haque explained the objectives of the 'Poshan Maah' celebration.

Addressing the gathering as appointed speaker, journalist Abhijit Khataniar said, "The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 2 is to 'End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by the year 2030. In line with this goal, the Government of India launched Flagship scheme called Poshan Abhiyan (Prime Minister's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) in 2018 to strengthen the efforts to end hunger and malnutrition." He also emphasized the traditional diet in order to enrich nutrition in our health.

The meeting was also addressed by the coordinator of ABITA-UNICEF Babari Sonowal, Multi-Purpose Worker of Kakopothar PHC Jugya Phukan, the Medical Officer of Phillobari Tea Estate Dr Nishant Ahmed Malik, Community Wash Coordinator of PHE Department Dhanyajit Moran, CDPO of Kakopothar Development Block Ashim Pachani and the manager of Phillobari Tea Estate Bhajan Pal Singh.

Significantly, three Severely Acute Malnutrition (SAM) children were adopted in the meeting by the manager of Phillobari Tea Estate, Bhajan Pal Singh and social activists of Phillobari Minaram Dang and Phirmon Nayak. An exhibition-cum-food hut on traditional food items prepared by the local Anganwadi workers was also displayed on this occasion.
