SILCHAR: Post-flood disease management is the topmost priority in the Cachar district as there is a chance of outbreak of epidemic in the district. This was stated by Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli while addressing the officials at the conference hall of DRDA in Silchar on Sunday.
Elaborating on the steps being taken by the Cachar administration in collaboration with district health society to contain the outbreak of epidemic in the district, Jalli said, "We have constituted teams in all the municipal wards and GP level with ground staff, teachers, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, Jeevikashaki and others who will make people aware about the importance of maintaining cleanliness, hygiene and other health parameters." "We have kept hospitals ready to tackle any serious condition in the community," DC Jalli added.
She said, "All people in the relief camps and at home should maintain cleanliness and proper hygiene, regularly wash hands with soap and cook using clean water. In addition, water must be boiled at optimum level." Jalli advised people to purify water using halogen tablets. She further informed that water tankers are supplying water regularly in all the areas of the Cachar district.
Jalli laid stress on proper garbage disposal system in Silchar and urged people to keep garbage at proper places so that it could be collected by SMB staff in the night.

At the time of diarrhoea, patients should be given ample quantity water which will prevent dehydration and minimize severity. Rat bites are also increasing and have common symptoms of fever and dehydration. If any fever persists for more than two days, the patient should be referred to nearest hospital for proper treatment."
"In town areas, 28 medical teams and in villages, 162 medical teams have been deployed and will visit the relief camps and affected villages of Cachar district. Specialist team of O&G, Skin and Pediatrics will visit separately and provide free medication. All the pregnant women and under-5 children will get vaccination in camps," Jalli said. She also directed the tea garden management to become more pro-active and asked to make necessary arrangements for drinking water and to clean the tankers regularly as infection may spread if not cleaned properly.
