GUWAHATI: Pratiksha Rani Borgohain has been named the Bihu Samragi, while Banani Gogoi was named the Bihu Rani and Ananya Phukan has bagged the Bihu Konwari title of the Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani 2023.

Bishnu Ram Nunisha present the winner trophy and mentioned, "The closing ceremony of 72nd Guwahati Bihu Sanmelani,Latasil, Uzanbazar was held on Monday and this year's Bihu Samragi was awarded in the memory of my parents as "ANAIRAM NUNISA and RAISHMODI NUNISA BIHU SAMRAGI AWARD 2023." I myself presented the award to the winner  Pratiksha Rani Borgohain. My heartiest congratulations to her and my best wishes to her. With dignitaries Ashok Kumar Bishaya, President, Guwahati Bihu Sammelan, Nilupam Das, General Secretary, Guwahati Bihu Sammelan and others. My heartiest congratulations to the Guwahati Bihu Sanmelan for the grand success of the event and I wish them the best for the future."

The 72nd edition of the Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani was organised in the historic Latasil playground like the previous years. This year’s event was organised from the 14th to 17th of April and the Bihu Samragi was the last event of the Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani.

While the winner of the Bihu Samragi, Pratiksha Rani Borgohain hails from the capital city of Guwahati, Bihu Rani Banani Gogoi hails from Moran and Bihu Konwari of the 72nd Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani belongs to Lakhimpur. According to the organises, the competition saw the participation of a total of seven contestants from across the state.

Dulumoni Bora won the title of ‘Shrestha Dhuliya’ and Debajit Tamuli won the title of ‘Shrestha Pepa Badok’ in this edition of the Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani.

The Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani or simply Latasil Bihu Sanmilani is the oldest open celebration of the festival in Assam. Starting in the year 1952, the 72nd edition was hosted this year in the same venue.

The Bihu Rani and Bihu Konwari competitions were held on the first day of the celebration, that is January 14, while the Bihu Samragi competition was held on the last day that is April 17.

Meanwhile, the Bihuwatis and Dhulias of the state made it to the Guinness Book of World Records through the largest-ever Bihu recital by over 11,000 participants from a single venue at Sarusajai Stadium here on the eve of Bohag Bihu. Authorities from the Guinness Book of World Records will hand over the certificates in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To cap it all, Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM) Dr Unnat P. Pandit handed over the certificate for the GI (Geographical Index) tag for the Assamese gamosa to the Chief Minister at the stadium.
