SIVASAGAR: Preparations are in full swing for the grand 5th Annual All-Assam Bhaona Competition, scheduled to be held in the village of Betbari Kuwamora Handique in Sivasagar district from January 17 to January 24, 2026. The eight-day cultural extravaganza will be hosted with the support of the people of Betbari, Thowra, Konwarpur, and Hahchara mouzas, along with the cooperation of residents of Sivasagar district.

As part of the celebrations, a special programme featuring traditional songs performed by 5,000 women is being planned to promote cultural harmony and heritage. To ensure the successful execution of this significant event, an organizing committee has been constituted with Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain as president, Dilip Changmai and Nityananda Saikia as working president, Indreshwar Gogoi, Pradyumna Dutta, and Saurav Changmai as secretaries, and Nabajyoti Gogoi as Treasurer.

In addition, renowned social workers Ghana Gogoi and Naba Kumar Baruah have been entrusted with key responsibilities as chief coordinators. A cultural sub-committee has also been formed, led by Shantanu Buragohain as president and Bastab Mintu Gogoi as secretary.

For the special segment involving 5,000 women performing traditional Assamese songs, Suren Dutta and Paban Saikia have been designated as supervisors.

The cultural committee has invited interested Bhaona groups from across Assam to submit their play scripts by August 10, 2025. Winning teams will be awarded cash prizes in recognition of their performances.

The organizing committee has earnestly sought the support, cooperation, and blessings of the people of Sivasagar and Assam to make the Bhaona Competition 2026 a grand success.
