Preparations completed to celebrate Lachit Barphukan's birth anniversary in Lakhimpur district
The Lakhimpur district administration has undertaken extensive programmes to celebrate the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan, the Hero of the Battle of Saraighat.
LAKHIMPUR: "The Lakhimpur district administration has undertaken extensive programmes to celebrate the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan, the Hero of the Battle of Saraighat. In this connection, the district administration has completed its preparation to disseminate the message of patriotic ideology of the noble figure of the State. The programmes will be conducted by various departments, academic institutions, and the police department for a week from November 18 to November 24."
This was informed by Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, in a media briefing programme organized in the conference hall of his office on Wednesday evening. The programme was convened to brief the district administration's agenda to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan on November 24 as per the instructions of the Government of Assam.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, the week-long programmes will kick-start on November 18 with march-past and musical band display to be conducted by the Police Department. On November 19, an essay competition will be held at each school of the district. Massive plantation drive, social services like visiting old age homes and child care institutes, cleanliness drive, Leprosy POD Camp will also be conducted by government departments on November 20.
On the other hand, along with a massive cleanliness drive, quiz competition, art competition, photo exhibition, extempore speech, essay writing competition etc. will also be held in the schools of the district on November 21.
On November 22, seminar, debate competition will be held across the district. The office of the District Information and Public Relation Officer will conduct awareness meetings on child labour at tea garden areas on the same day. On the other hand, a series of traditional games will be organized at different places of the district on November 23. On November 24, cycle rallies, blood donation camps will be organized across the district. On the same day, the central programme for the celebration of the birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan to be held in New Delhi will be live telecast. Street plays will be staged throughout the week in the market and public places of the district.
In the programme, SP Bedanta Madhav Rajkhowa said that the march past and musical band display programmes would be conducted from Tyag Jshetra via SP office, covering DC Office, Court Tiniali to the Main Chariali of North Lakhimpur town. The programmes concerned will conclude at Tyag Kshetra.
