TEZPUR: A preparatory meeting for the observance of Bishnu Rabha Divas 2025, scheduled on June 20, was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Ankur Bharali at the Conference Hall of the DC’s Office, Sonitpur.
The meeting was graced by the MLA of Tezpur LAC, Prithiraj Rava, and attended by Additional District Commissioner Kabita Kakati Konwar, executive magistrates, the cultural development officer, representatives from the Education Department and local colleges, as well as members of various social and cultural organizations.
In his opening remarks, DC Bharali apprised the gathering of the directives received from the Cultural Department, Government of Assam, regarding the observance of Bishnu Rabha Divas. He urged all departments and stakeholders to come together to commemorate the occasion in a befitting manner. He further emphasised that the day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the immense contributions of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha to society, culture, and the arts.
ADC Kabita Kakati Konwar informed that five vehicles will be deployed across the five LACs of the district for the purpose of branding and promoting Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha’s works, particularly his songs. These vehicles will operate from around 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, visiting pre-designated locations, playing his compositions, and engaging educational institutions and students in the programme.
The District Commissioner also directed that on June 20, all schools under the district’s jurisdiction must arrange for a speech during morning assembly on the life and legacy of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Additionally, higher educational institutions were encouraged to organize talks or seminars on his contributions.
Further discussions were held regarding the finalization of a venue for the live streaming of the central commemorative programme, which will be hosted in Nalbari this year. Plans for the tribute ceremony (Shraddhanjali) at Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Samadhi Kshetra, Tezpur, to be held on the morning of June 20, were also deliberated during the meeting.
