Prominent advocate Horin Mahanta passes away in Guwahati

JORHAT: Prominent legal expert, writer, social activist, and educationist Horin Mahanta passed away at a private nursing home in Guwahati on Tuesday. He was 72. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son.

As soon as the news of his demise spread, people thronged his Kakotigoan residence. The body was brought to the residence last in the evening. The last rites were performed at the Tarajan Hindu crematorium in the presence of family members, friends, and well-wishers.

Mahanta was associated with a number of social organizations, including the Jorhat Press Club, Jorhat Bar Association, Senior Citizen Forum, and Jorhat Law College. Mahanta authored over seven books on the burning social issues. His demise has been condoled by Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker and Jorhat MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami and Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhaya Prasad Tasa.
