DHUBRI: Pranoy Roy, former vice-president of the Dhubri District Committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), breathed his last at a private nursing home in Bongaigaon on Thursday.
Roy was a prominent student leader of western Assam, a former journalist, and a supporter of the historic Assam Movement and served in the LICI. A resident of Ward No. 6 in Dhubri town, Roy was born in 1969. His father, the late Jogendra Narayan Mondal, was a legislator. As a dynamic nationalist youth leader, Pranoy Roy played a vital role in the social life of Dhubri.
The people of Dhubri expressed that his death is an irreparable loss to the social fabric of the region. Hemendra Chakravarty, former advisor to the central committee of AJYCP; former vice-president Monindra Nath Roy; and former president of the Dhubri District Committee Bhaskar Kumar Baruah expressed deep sorrow at his passing and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
His last rites were performed at the Dhubri Crematorium on Thursday evening in the presence of numerous admirers. Roy is survived by his wife, son, daughter, elder brother, and many relatives.
