KOKRAJHAR: The flame of agitation of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) against the Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU) Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh demanding his removal and appointment of new VC for the varsity has further engulfed as several hundred of students from four BTR districts, student organizations of different communities including Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) joined the 6 day-long protest demonstration in front of the BU on Tuesday. The ABSU has decided Raj Bhavan gherao and National Highway blockade as the next course of the agitational programme against VC Singh.

Talking to reporters in the protest, the president of ABSU Dipen Boro said ABSU will not compromise on corrupt VC Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh but will continue the peaceful and democratic movement till the corrupt VC is ousted. He said the ABSU will gherao Rajbhavan as next course of agitation and will have national highway blockade and indefinite bandh of Bodoland University in the days to come. He alleged that Raj Bhavan was protecting the corrupt VC which is a matter of shame. He also said it was surprising that a corrupt officer can evade arrest and continue his office by obtaining anticipatory bail. He questioned how the high level committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary of Assam for Higher Education as chairman - Biswaranjan Samal could give a clean chit to VC Laishram Ladu Singh without substantial conclusion.

Replying to questions, Boro said ABSU will be compelled to impose indefinite bandh in BU if the peaceful and democratic movement is not given due respect by the Raj Bhavan and the government of Assam. He also said they will call on the President of India, Prime Minister of India and Union Home Minister over the issue. He further said superannuation in next February was not their concern but their concern is about the future of the students and the development of University because this is the only premier higher educational institution in BTC which is the outcome of Bodoland movement and sacrifice of over 5,000 Bodo people and therefore, action must be taken even a day is left for his retirement.

The Vice president of the ABSU Kwrwmdao Wary in his speech said Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh was accused by CM’S Vigilance Cell and Anti Corruption Bureau for his corruptions in the University under various sections but he took free arrest bail and continued his office.

Wary slammed Dr. S.K. Deb, Prof. of Civil Engineering, IIT-Guwahati, Dr. Mrinal Kanti Choudhury, Academic adviser to the Governor and B.B. Mishra, Finance Officer of Tezpur University for their alleged role in giving a clean chit to Singh.

The six day-long protest programme of ABSU against the VC will come to an end on Wednesday but the union is likely to announce the proposed Raj Bhavan gherao and National Highway blockade programme any time soon if Raj Bhavan and Government of Assam fail to take action against the VC of Bodoland University.
