DIBRUGARH: All Assam Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union (AASKSU) and the All Assam Sonowal Kachari Nari Santha on Monday staged a massive protest for immediate conduct of elections to the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council and demand for inclusion of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian constitution.

The protesters, holding placards and banners, raised slogans against Himanta Biswa Sarma led- BJP government for failing to hold elections to the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council.

“Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council election has been on hold for over a year. We demand for immediate elections of SKAC. We want new members through elections,” said a member of AASKSU.

They also demanded transparency and a clear timeline for holding elections to the autonomous council, which has been functioning without elected representatives. The organizations warned that if their demands were not met soon, they would intensify their movement across Assam.
