RANGIYA: A protest was taken out in front of the Rangiya Municipal Board office on Monday against the alleged usage of materials of inadequate quality for the construction of the classroom after the roof was blown off by a storm.

A cyclone passed over the Rangiya region of the state leading to the damage to a newly constructed classroom in the Jawaharlal Nehru Sishu Vidyalaya in the region. The incident took place one day before the day it was about to be dedicated to the public and students would be using this new classroom.

The members of the youth wing of the Congress party organised this protest in Rangiya. They alleged mismanagement during the construction of the classroom meant to be used by the students of class IX as it was damaged by a small amount of wind and rain.

The protesters also demanded strict action against the contractor Manab Bezbaruah who was in charge of this construction project and a proper investigation was conducted regarding the matter.

The incident had taken place on Saturday morning when a storm blew away the roofing sheets and completely damaged the ceiling of the new classroom. The teachers of the school and the parents of the students raised complaints regarding the quality of work. It was also mentioned that the school authorities had pointed out the flaws in the project before, but no action was taken. They also mentioned that this project was a major risk to the children studying in the school and demanded that it be taken down and the classroom be completely re-constructed and not just repaired.

They mentioned that the Municipal board should have taken proper action beforehand and ensured that proper care was taken regarding the materials and quality of work and demanded that it undertakes an investigation regarding the matter with immediate effect.
