KOKRAJHAR: Public consultation on skill, employment and entrepreneurship got underway in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and the inaugural programme was held at Iragdao Community hall, Titaguri in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the programme, the EM of BTC, Wilson Hasda said, "We are aware that to succeed in the 21st century, one needs a comprehensive skill set composed of cognitive skills, socio-emotional skills, technical skills, digital skills, life skills, etc. The development of skills can contribute to structural transformation and economic growth by enhancing employability and labour productivity and helping societies to be more progressive. Skill development has been considered one of the critical aspects for job creation in India."

He said that Bodoland skill employment and entrepreneurship development mission was inaugurated on December 14, 2021 and it would provide quality skill ecosystem to the youth of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Bodoland SEED Mission will be responsible for coordination of all skill development efforts across BTR region, exclusion of disconnect between demand and supply of skilled manpower, building the vocational and technical training framework, skill enhancement, structuring of new skills, and pioneering thinking not only for existing jobs but also jobs that are to be created by engaging young people from BTR region. He said the aim of the mission was to achieve the vision of a skilled BTR which would bring happiness amongst people of the region.

To make the mission more inclusive, public consultation was held in different districts of BTR. The district consultation in Kokrajhar was held at Raja Iragdao community hall at Titaguri on March 29. The consultation was attended by Wilson Hasda , Executive Member of SEED, BTR, apart from Pranjit Das, Council Head of Department, Ranjan K. Baruah, adviser to SEED, BTR. The consultation was attended by different individuals, representatives from students' union, social organizations etc.

The public consultation was organized to seek ideas and suggestions from different stakeholders, including students, to make the mission more effective and vibrant. Participants shared their ideas and raised the concern that mere skill training was not enough for employability as more intervention was needed from the government and agencies to ensure employability amongst young people. Participants praised the BTC government headed by Pramod Bodo for conducting public consultations and listening to the public.

Bodoland SEED mission intends to work with the existing network of skill development institutes, universities and other stakeholders in the field. Additional collaborations with relevant central ministries, state governments, international organizations, industry or corporate, especially PSUs and NGOs, will be initiated for multi-level engagement and more tangible impact.

Bodoland SEED Mission will be under the aegis of the skill employment and entrepreneurship department of BTC. The mission's aims and objectives include capacity building of the unemployed youth and to deliver quality skill training leading to meaningful employment for sustainable change in the region.

After taking inputs and ideas from participants from consultation held in different districts, the mission will try to mobilize young people and provide required counseling, training, placement support, entrepreneurial training, training to get financial assistance from financial institutions and different departments. The vision of the mission is to endow young people of BTR with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship for sustainable development.
