BISWANATH CHARIALI: A public meeting was held in the premises of the Natya Mandir at Biswanath Ghat on Friday under the initiative of Biswanath Regional Brahmaputra Matsya Jeeva Samiti.

The forest department had recently prohibited fishing on the northern part of the Kaziranga National Park in the Brahmaputra River and arrested a few fishermen for violation of the prohibitory order. Nripen Das, central president, All Assam Scheduled Caste Youth Students' Association, Vijay Das, central organization secretary, SinghjitHazarika, and others were present in the meeting while Biswajit Das conducted the proceedings of the meeting and GadapaniDas, president of BiswanathGhatKaivarta Scheduled Caste Committee presided over it. In the meeting, the fishermen discussed in details how to get rid of various legal issues that they had been facing for a long time. Some important resolutions were passed in the meeting that included meeting between all Scheduled Caste ministers of Assam and the ministers of the North Bank and the matter should be taken up in the Legislative Assembly.

The meeting also urged to organize a tripartite meeting at the Biswanath Deputy Commissioner's Office in the presence of the Director of Kaziranga National Park. The speakers also said that the decision to increase the limit of the Sixth Extension would not be accepted until all fishermen were rehabilitated. A large number of fishermen from Biswanath to Gohpur participated in this meeting.
