Puspa Devi Jalan Memorial Award conferred to Dr Dhanashri Sarma of Assam's Kharupetia College
The award conferred under the aegis of monthly news magazine Barta Pakhilee carries a citation, a memento, a bundle of books and cash prize of Rs 21,000

MANGALDAI: Dr Dhanashri Sarma, a promising young writer and a teacher in the Assamese department of Kharupetia College, has been awarded the 11th edition of the Puspa Devi Jalan Memorial Award which has been constituted to inspire women writers above 40 years of age for their books promoting Assamese language, literature and culture.
The award conferred under the aegis of monthly news magazine Barta Pakhilee carries a citation, a memento, a bundle of books and cash prize of Rs 21,000. Dr Sarma was selected for her recently published book Asomiya Byanga Sahitya Bisar. Eminent academician and writer Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury ceremonially handed over the award to Dr Dhanashri at a public function organized here at Youth Club on Thursday afternoon.
The largely-attended function was also addressed by Dr Mukul Chakraborty, Professor of Gauhati University, retired senior administrator and writer Thaneswar Malakar, officiating president of Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha, Barada Saikia, editor of Barta Pakhilee , Brojen Deka and Gopal Jalan from the donor family.
