Python rescued and released by All Assam Tribal Students Union (AATSU) at Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: A huge python measuring 14 feet in length with weight over 20 kg was rescued by a team of All Assam Tribal Students Union (AATSU) from Dwijiguri village under Kokrajhar Police Station on Thursday. Later, the python was released in Chakrasilla wildlife Sanctuary with the help of forest department.

The general secretary of AATSU Hareswsr Brahma said that the villagers of Dwijiguri noticed the giant python swallowing a goat and informed them. He said the a team of the student body rescued the python and later released it in the jungle of Chakrasilla Wildlife Sanctuary with the help of forest department.

Chakrasilla Wildlife Sanctuary near Kokrajhar town is the home for endangered golden langur. The sanctuary has various types of reptiles, deers and birds. The famous Baokhungri and Dangduful Hills of Chakrasilla Wildlife Sanctuary has historical importance and has two huge lakes Diplai and Dheer lakes.

The sanctuary is believed to have many species of snakes. Various NGOs, organizations and forest department have so far released number of pythons rescued from different places for several years as the sanctuary is a suitable habitat for reptiles.
