Quasquicentennial Jubilee of John Firth School of Lakhimpur
John Firth Christian English High School, located in North Lakhimpur town is going to celebrate its quasquicentennial jubilee on January 5 and January 6 in the upcoming year on the occasion of the completion of its 125 years.

LAKHIMPUR: John Firth Christian English High School, located in North Lakhimpur town is going to celebrate its quasquicentennial jubilee on January 5 and January 6 in the upcoming year on the occasion of the completion of its 125 years. The school was established by American Christian Missionary Reverend John Firth at Nakari in the mid-floor of the town in 1893.
In addition to undivided Lakhimpur district, students from the neighbouring States of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mehgalaya, almost all the States of Northeast, studied in the school. Though the school entered its 125 years in 2018, the celebration of the quasquicentennial jubilee had to be postponed due COVID-19 pandemic situation.
In connection with the celebration of the event, a celebration committee was constituted in a public meeting with Devendra Kumar Pandey as president, Sipu Bhawal as working president, Dulami Herenj Pandu as vice president, Mosfur Ali Hazarika as secretary, Prasanta Basumatary as joint secretary, Theophilus Korkoria as treasurer and Priyam Jyoti Phukan as publicity secretary. At present, the committee has undertaken due preparations to celebrate the event with success on the stipulated days.
As a part of such preparations, a meeting of the celebration committee with the Arunachal Pradesh based alumni of the school was held in Naharlagun in a cordial environment regarding the celebration of the event.
The meeting commenced with Reverend Swaram Daimari in the chair. In the meeting, detailed discussion was held about the publication of a souvenir and construction of a permanent gate of the school in addition to other subjects related to the celebration of the event. The alumni present in the meeting became nostalgic by ruminating their colourful memories of the school. The meeting selected Techi Toke as the co-ordinator of the alumni of the school living in Arunachal Pradesh and shouldered him the responsibility to coordinate with them to ensure their cooperation with regard to celebration of the event.
