DOOMDOOMA: The debating and literary section of Doomdooma College, established in 1967, organized the Raihan Shah Memorial State Level Inter-College Prize-Money Debate Competition on Tuesday in memory of the second Principal and former Professor of English, Cotton College, Raihan Shah on the topic "The standard of education would be improved only when the schools not showing good results are closed down'.
Before the debate started, Ramesh Goswami, president, Governing Body (GB) of the college, garlanded the portrait of Raihan Shah while Vice-Principal Dr Champa Mohan Rao lit the lamp before his portrait. Thereafter, Principal in-charge, Dr Amarjit Saikia welcomed the guests. On the other hand, Associate Professor Deepak Ranjan Baruah gave an introduction on Raihan Shah.
Dr Chandan Kumar Sarmah, Associate Professor, Dibrugarh University (DU) was the speaker of the debate. Satabdi Hazarika of DU was adjudged as the best debater of the event and was awarded Rs 10,000 in cash and a trophy. The second prize of Rs 6,000 and a trophy went to Sudarshan Kaushik Sarmah of Cotton State University, Guwahati while the third prize of Rs 4,000 and a trophy was bagged by Sudipta Saikia of Jagannath Baruah Autonomous College, Jorhat.
DU won the best team award and Parismrita Phukan (Doomdooma College), Kasturi Bipul (DU) and Bagmita Das (Tinsukia College) were awarded the judge's special awards.
