Rail communication between Silchar and New Haflong likely to be restored soon

A CORRESPONDENT

HAFLONG: As the restoration work between Lumding and Badarpur hills section is going on, the railway authority is contemplating to resume rail communication between Silchar and New Haflong very soon. This was informed by the Divisional Railway Manager Lumding J S Lakra while talking to this correspondent over phone on Sunday.

The railway communication in Lumding -Badarpur hills section was disrupted by incessant rains and landslides from May 14. The new Haflong Railway Station was submerged with mud and debris. Now the station is almost cleared of debris and the tracks have been made suitable for running of trains.

DRM Lakra said a total of 60 locations were damaged out of which 11 were critical. Now the restoration work in every location is going on in full swing. A few locations between Wedrengdisa and Dautuhaja are also being taken care of but the restoration work faces challenges due to the absence of an easy approach to these locations.

The local media persons who are continuously reporting on the progress of the restoration work, are of the opinion that the local railway officials are in the habit of avoiding the media for reasons best known to them, thus depriving people of proper information regarding the resumption of railway communication between Lumding and Badarpur.
