DIBRUGARH: Speculation has been running high that the veteran BJP leader Rajen Gohain may soon join the Assam Jatiya Parishad led by Lurinjyoti Gogoi. However, Gohain has so far refrained from making any official statement on the matter.

Gohain held a three-hours closed door meeting at a private hotel in Dibrugarh on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, Rajen Gohain said, “You will come to know if there is any communication with the AJP or any other political party. So far, nothing of that sort has happened,”.

The crucial meeting, held at Mayabini Restaurant in Milan Nagar, Dibrugarh, was attended by Gohain and several key leaders from his faction.

Rajen Gohain was dissatisfied with the state BJP leadership and its functioning.

Gohain is the former Union Minister and one of the senior BJP leaders in Assam, has been dissatisfied with the party when he was denied ticket in the last year elections.

Rajen Gohain is one of the old BJP gun in Assam who have a good reputation with party workers.

“If Rajen Gohain joins AJP then it will be a major jolt to the BJP. Before the Assembly election in 2026, BJP didn’t want to lose senior leaders like Gohain. Gohain is well known for his strategies and he knows the functioning but he was not happy with the current functioning of  BJP under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,” said a BJP source.
