ORANG: The sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan, observed annually on the auspicious day of Shravana Purnima, was celebrated with warmth and reverence at the Orang police station in Udalguri district on August 9.
The event was organized in line with the Assam Government and Education Department’s directive to integrate the occasion with the ongoing ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. The celebration saw enthusiastic participation from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) unit of Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Degree College, a nine-member group of girls from Gelabil Higher Secondary School, and a seven-member team from 2 No. Nalbari Higher Secondary School, Dhanshrighat.
Initiated under the special guidance of Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Orang police station Sharad Chandra Kalita and supported by school authorities, the programme was conducted with both solemnity and heartfelt emotion. Senior Teacher Atul Chandra Nath of Gelabil Higher Secondary School coordinated the proceedings, while Principal Dineswar Boruah of 2 No. Nalbari HS School formally inaugurated the celebration.
In a touching gesture, the girl students tied sacred rakhis to OC Sharad Chandra Kalita, sub-inspectors Surajit Hazarika and Swaming Pamuang, assistant sub-inspectors Abdul Rouf Mondal, Diganta Bora, Tajimuddin Ahmed, Kumud Nath, women police Constable Rakhee Bouri, UBC Biswajit Sutradhar, other police personnel and staff from the 27th AP Bn. Each rakhi was tied with devotion, symbolizing the sisters’ prayers for the protection and well-being of the police officers, who in turn blessed the students.
The significance of Raksha Bandhan was highlighted in speeches by OC Kalita, retired award-winning Headmaster Krishna Kanta Bora, and other dignitaries. The event was graced by teachers Khajendra Basumatary and Anita Basumatary, senior journalist Naba Kumar Deka, and Gelabil Higher Secondary School student leader Manisha Devi.
As a token of goodwill, Orang police station presented pens and refreshments to all participants, making the celebration not just a symbolic exchange of threads, but a true bonding of hearts between the protectors of law and the young citizens they serve.
