BONGAIGAON: Fulfilling a long-pending demand of the public, the Bongaigaon cremation centre was officially re-inaugurated on Wednesday.
The re-inauguration was done by Guardian Minister of Bongaigaon district Ranjeet Kumar Dass. Several noted persons including Subodh Das, Chairman, Bongaigaon Municipality, Sailen Sarkar, Vice-Chairman of Bongaigaon Municipality, Prashanti Bhattacharjee, Executive Officer of Bongaigaon Municipality, Dr Itesh Bordoiloi, eminent social worker, Prabhat Baishnab, eminent social worker, and others were present on the occasion.
Addressing the media, Dass appreciated the work done by the Bongaigaon Municipality. “I appreciate this work and appeal to the Bongaigaon Municipality to continue such work. They have no need to worry about funds, as our CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will definitely make the arrangements,” he said.
Talking about the government’s recent operation against beef selling, he said that this operation should be continued. “We have no problem with beef consumption. But in a Hindu-majority area, the communal sentiment should not be hurt. It is a good step and must continue further,” he stated.
The cremation centre was reconstructed by the Bongaigaon Municipality at an expense of Rs 18,85,820.
