Rashtriya Poshan Maah begins in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: The Rashtriya Poshan Maah and Matru Vandana Saptah in Sonitpur district was launched on Wednesday in a function held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office here.

MLA of Tezpur LAC, Prithiraj Rabha, Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das, CEO, Zilla Parishad, Diganta Baishya, president of Sonitpur Zilla Parishad, Dolly Surin, and other dignitaries were present in the inaugural programme.

MLA of Tezpur, Prithiraj Rabha called upon all the officials to put in concerted efforts and strive to achieve the goal to remove malnourishment from the country altogether. The Deputy Commissioner in his inaugural speech, highlighted the importance of overcoming the challenge of malnourishment in order to reduce the MMR/IMR in the State and also highlighted the various schemes undertaken by the Social Welfare department for the welfare of women and children.

The event was simultaneously launched at the district as well as at various ICDS project level. A signature campaign by the participants for ensuring public support to pregnant women and lactating mothers was also undertaken.

On the occasion, the MLA of Tezpur and DC fed nutritional food to two children to highlight the importance of nutrition in young children. A selfie corner-cum-photo booth has been designed and placed at the venue for the beneficiaries of PMMVY. A talk on nutrition, health and sanitation was delivered on the occasion.
