LAKHIMPUR: Mixed reactions regarding the viral of the screenshots, about objectionable conversation and sharing of obscene photographs through Facebook Messenger between Principal Dr Biman Chandra Chetia and an identified woman continue in Lakhimpur.

On Friday, the Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) addressed a press conference at North Lakhimpur Press Club in this connection. The organization alleged that the government and the district administration had not initiated adequate steps regarding the issue. Addressing the media persons, Lakhimpur AASU president Simanta Neog and central committee organizing secretary Pulok Borah demanded for the termination of Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia from the job. They expressed resentment that Lakhimpur police had not filed a suo-motto case against the principal and had not seized his mobile phone. They also expressed resentment over grant of 15 days' compulsory leave to him. They demanded the government to suspend him immediately and launch a magisterial enquiry against him. "AASU will continue protest until and unless government take steps against Dr Biman Chandra Chetia and the students will boycott classes if he joins after 15 days," they declared.

On the other hand, the Lakhimpur district unit of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police by urging him to find out the truth of the issue after tracing the unscrupulous racket involved in it. Notably, principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia already said that he had become a victim of a well-hatched conspiracy against him. He added that an unscrupulous racket had hacked his Facebook account and did so from a fake account to destroy him socially. In this connection, the Principal already filed a case at North Lakhimpur Police Station on Wednesday.

The Lakhimpur district committee of All Tai Ahom Students' Union demanded the district administration to initiate legitimate step, not only against the principal but against the unidentified woman and the racket associated with her also, by launching an effective inquiry into the matter.
