HAILAKANDI: The Re-designed Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Yojana (SVAYEM) was ceremonially launched in Hailakandi district here on Saturday.

Launching the scheme ceremonially at the Rabindra Bhavan auditorium as chief guest, Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya and other dignitaries gave away dummy cheques to five SHGs, stated a press release. Altogether 47 SHGs consisting of 354 members of the district will be given financial assistance of Rs.50,000 each in two installments. Suklabaidya said that youth was power and they had to imbibe the ideals of Swami Vivekananda to forge ahead in life. He said that the scheme had been redesigned with painstaking efforts of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to help the youth to start their own business ventures and to become self independent and self reliant.

Suklabaidya said it was a memorable day that the launching of the scheme had taken place in Hailakandi district coinciding with the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who sacrificed everything for the sake of the country's independence and was a fountainhead of inspiration for the youth of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, former minister Gautam Roy urged the youth who availed assistance under the scheme to judiciously use the money for self employment and for the benefit of their families and society at large.
