GOALPARA: A book release function organized by the Pancharatna branch of Goalpara district Sahitya Sabha, was held at Natasurya Phani Sarma Bhawan of Goalpara town on Tuesday.

At least three books by three different authors were released by several distinguished personalities and litterateurs in the function chaired by Ismail Ali, president of the Pancharatna Sahitya Sabha. Mrinalini Devi, vice-president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, released the book of poetry Mor Monor Moukokh by Dr. Bhanu Saikia.

On the other hand, Jadab Chandra Sarma, secretary general of Axam Xahitya Xabha released another book of poetry Sondhiyar Sewali by Ranjan Kumar Nath, a former health department employee.

The third book, a children's rhyme scheme named Okonihotor Mel by Mohd. Ismail was released by Ashrumoni Malakar, District Development Commissioner, Goalpara.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrinalini Devi said, "Composing or creation of a poem is not an ordinary task. Prior to going for this, one should take time, give deep thinking, talk to his own soul, meditate and then begin his work."

She further said, "Giving uruli at the birth of a baby is part of Indian culture. The composition and release of a new book is like the birth of a baby. So, we should welcome it with an uruli."

Jadab Chandra Sarma in his lively speech from the dais said, "Goalpara has a rich artistic and cultural heritage. It has given birth to Prasannalal Ghosh, a son of the soil, who fought for the cause of the Assamese language."

Ashrumoni Malakar expressed her happiness with the words, "I am really fortunate to be a part of this loving and significant function. This book is really worth reading for the children."

Meanwhile, in another programme arranged at the Axom Club of Goalpara town, a book on former MLA Benoy Ghosh, authored by noted dramatist and educationist, Prof. Uttam Kr. Sarma, was released by Jadab Chandra Sarma. A frontline social activist, Benoy Ghosh died at the age of 95 years a few months ago. Dulal Chandra Ghosh, former MLA, Dr. Subhash Barman, Principal of Goalpara College and many others attended this function.
