KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on Tuesday appealed to all voters to cast their vote while relying on their own conscience to exercise their democratic freedom.

In a press meet held at Bodofa House on Tuesday, the president of the ABSU, DipenBoro said, "Voters no longer need to fear to cast their votes for the candidates of their choice as the period of domination and show of muscle power has come to an end." He said that after 17 years, the people of the region could cast their valuable votes in a free and fair manner this time and so voters should not vote under anybody's dictate or pressure.

Boro said that the first phase of BTC election had passed off peacefully in a free and fair manner in Udalguri and Baksa. He thanked the district administration and Returning Officers of both districts for ensuring free and fair polls and hoped that in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts too the election would pass off peacefully.

"This time the people have come forward to cast their votes against corruption, nepotism and misrule," he said, adding that people of the region desired a change with new ideas and policies to establish good governance.

The ABSU president said that the students' union had already announced its resolution to support the PromodBoro-led UPPL in the BTC election. He claimed that the UPPL would grab majority seats and for the new government. He claimed that as per their ground report, the UPPL would get 18 seats in Udalguri and Baksa districts and was likely to get another 16 seats in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts in the next phase. He appealed to the voters to support the collective and pro-people's government. He also called upon all to remain vigilant against illegal money distribution by the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) in remote places.
