Dr Purnanarayan Sinha, who arrived during the British era and built a life of struggle amidst numerous challenges, created a personality of great stature for himself.
Dr Sinha served in various important roles, including Chairman of the Labour Commission, President of the Cotton Mill Trade Union, and Chairperson of the SC-ST Welfare Board. One of his most notable contributions was his instrumental role in the creation of the Kolia Bhomora Bridge, Tezpur, inaugurated by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1987.
The Satradhikar of Madhupur Satra fondly recalled the Late Dr Purnanarayan Sinha, whose selfless service to the people continues to be remembered even after 25 years. One of his most significant contributions was the donation of an Ambassador car to Madhupur Satra, a sacred place where both Srimanta Sankardev and Madhavdev, along with ten Bhagats, spent their last days. The car was gifted to facilitate the travel of Bhakats between North Bengal and Assam for Satra-related activities.
Dr Parashmoni Sinha, son of the late Dr Purnanarayan Sinha and a social worker, visited the historic Madhupur Satra, where the Satradhikar, Pitambar Bhakat, shared memories of his father. “We have had many political representatives over the years, but the Late Dr Purnanarayan Sinha was truly one of a kind,” said the Satradhikar. His contributions and dedication to the people make him an unparalleled figure in our history.
Madhupur Satra is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for the Assamese people, especially the followers of the Vaishnavite faith. Located in Madhupur, in the Cooch Behar district of present-day West Bengal, this holy site is where the great saints Srimanta Sankardev and Madhavdev attained their heavenly abode. This Madhupur Satra is also known as Dahamukutar Than. Dahamukuta refers to the sacred site where ten disciples of Srimanta Sankardev had their spiritual foundation.
