Retired Addl CMHO Dr Jonali Choudhury passes away at 66; Mangaldai mourns loss

MANGALDAI: Dr Jonali Choudhury, retired Additional Chief Medical & Health Officer (Addl CM&HO) of Darrang and a resident of Santipara, Ward No. 1, Mangaldai town, passed away on Monday at a private hospital in Guwahati following a brief illness. She was 66 years old.

Born to the Late Lohit Choudhury and Labanya Choudhury of New Colony, Ward No. 7, Mangaldai, Dr Choudhury was a distinguished student who pursued her MBBS at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in 1977. After completing her medical education, she dedicated her career to serving rural communities, working at hospitals in Sipajhar and Jaljali before being appointed as Addl CM&HO of Darrang. She retired from service in December 2024.

Known for her simplicity and compassionate nature, Dr Choudhury was widely admired and respected. On Friday night, she suffered sudden abdominal bleeding and was initially admitted to Mangaldai Civil Hospital before being transferred to a private hospital in Guwahati. Despite medical efforts, her condition worsened, and she passed away at approximately 6:00 AM on Monday.

Dr Choudhury is survived by her husband, Dr Phanindra Kr Choudhury, their son, who is also a doctor, their daughter, and other relatives. Her untimely demise left the community in profound grief, with many mourning the loss of a beloved figure
