DHEKIAJULI: The air in Rowta was thick with emotion and pride on Saturday, as hundreds gathered to bid a tearful farewell to Assistant Sub-Inspector Vijay Saharia, the valiant son of the soil, who was laid to rest with full military honours.

The 55-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer, serving in the insurgency-affected terrains of Jharkhand’s 26th Battalion, succumbed to a fatal rise in blood pressure on duty on June 6. Despite the suddenness of his passing, his legacy of courage and dedication echoed through every salute fired and every tear shed at his final rites.

Joining the force in 1993, Saharia carved his path through danger zones with unwavering commitment. He stood tall not only as an officer but also as a symbol of Assam’s indomitable spirit in the nation’s fight against extremism.

His mortal remains were airlifted from the dense, red-corridor zones of Jharkhand and brought with utmost respect to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. From there, a solemn procession carried his body home to Bhelapara in Rowta, where grieving family, friends, villagers, and fellow soldiers paid homage. The final journey concluded at Rowta Chariali Cremation Ground, where the CRPF honoured him with a ceremonial guard of honour and last salute.

Amid patriotic chants and prayers, Vijay Saharia’s life came full circle as a martyr draped in the Tricolour. He is survived by his wife and a son. In the hearts of many, he now lives on as a national hero.
