Saksham Bitiya Abhiyaan campaign concludes in Dhubri

Focus on holistic development of the girl child

DHUBRI: Piramal Foundation and Agomoni Educational Block launched a campaign in February this year focusing on the holistic development of the girl child named Saksham Bitiya Abhiyaan. The phase one campaign concluded recently.

Block Elementry Education Officer (in-charge) of Agomoni Educational, Suresh Sarkar, in collaboration with Gandhi Fellow Deepak Shah both campaigned from February 1 to March 30 successfully with 1,054 children, 64 community and college volunteers, 703 out of them were girl children.

A source in Piramal informed that from the next academic session, the campaign will kick start for Phase 2 and expand its reach to 3,171 girls and 4,205 total children covering 90 different communities and 108 schools with the support of school teachers and Cluster Resource Center coordinators (CRCCs) of 34 clusters.

The campaign is committed to build self-awareness and a better understanding of the world and boost creativity and critical thinking skills in girl children in six weeks of unique poetry curriculum, the source further informed.

The volunteers conducted classes with children in their respective community, villages and nearby schools under Saksham Bitiya Abhiyaan with the support of school teachers, headmasters, members of School Management Committee, and CRCCs of Agomoni Educational Block.

The volunteers were generated from the School Management Committees (SMC), local communities, students from Halakura College, and Progati College of Agomoni. The volunteers have enrolled 10-15 girl children from the local community and regularly conducted classes for six weeks and completed the campaign, the source said.

Suresh Sarkar, BEEO I/C, Agomoni, while talking to The Sentinel, said, "The effort of Piramal Foundation in educating girl child is very impressive. If they continue such efforts, the education of girl child skill will improve in future."

Further, Block Resource Person (BRP), Utpal Bhattacharjee said that the Piramal Foundation was working on Saksham Bitiya Abhiyaan for the improvement of girls' education at Agomani block.

"The initiative is appreciable as it will create awareness among the girl students and remove all kinds of superstition in our society. This effort will certainly develop girls' education and help us to reach our goal," Bhattacharjee added.

Dhubri District Programme Manager of Piramal Foundation, Udai Singh Chundawat said that with the launch of the campaign, along with all the stakeholders, it was pledged to ensure that they receive quality education and all collaboratively agreed to ensure a better tomorrow for the girl students of the block.

"I am thankful to all the block stakeholders, CRCCs, Teachers, HMs, SMC members, and volunteers for their hard work, dedication and support during the campaign and together we'll ensure to keep this momentum going and increase impact," said Gandhi Fellow, Deepak Shah. Lakhima Begum, a community volunteer said, "I joined this campaign as a volunteer to teach something new. In the past few weeks, I have come close to the children and we have become like a family."
