DIBRUGARH: A new chapter in women's empowerment and skill development began with the inauguration of the Vanya Silk Weaving Skill Training Program under Samarth 2.0 at Natun Bolai, Dibrugarh. The month-long program aims to equip 30 local women with specialized skills in silk weaving and essential soft skills, helping them become self-reliant and economically empowered.

The initiative is part of the Ministry of Textiles’ Samarth Scheme, which focuses on skill development in the textile sector, especially in traditional crafts and weaving practices.

During the inauguration, the trainees were introduced to various silk products woven by the previous batch, giving them insight into the quality and creativity of handmade silk items. The demonstration served as both inspiration and motivation for the new batch.

Officials emphasized that the training program will not only provide technical skills but also build confidence and communication abilities, enabling participants to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in the future. The program is expected to play a key role in reviving traditional weaving practices while contributing to women’s livelihood generation in rural Dibrugarh.

Meanwhile, Advantage Assam 2.0 has brought hope to the Muga, Eri, and other silk weavers and especially to the weavers of Assam as the Assam State Handloom, Textiles, and Sericulture Department signed three MoUs with three different companies earlier in February.
