Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates Jengraimukh Model Hospital at Majuli

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the newly constructed Jengraimukh Model Hospital at Majuli today. The new hospital has been constructed with an expenditure of rupees five crores.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the Assam government is taking all necessary steps for ensuring affordable health care in all remote areas of the State. In this regard, new health infrastructure has been created along with the augmentation of existing infrastructure. He said that the newly opened Jengraimukh Model Hospital is a new edition that would significantly help the people of Majuli and the people of the adjoining districts.

The Chief Minister informed that already doctors, nurses and technical staff have been appointed in the hospital. He also appreciated Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, MoS (Health) Pijush Hazarika and officials of the Health Department for their initiatives to ensure affordable and accessible health care services in Majuli.

Minister of State for Health Pijush Hazarika said that the State will see a sea change in the health sector in the next few years. He stated that presently the State Medical Colleges produce 750 medical graduates but due to steps taken by the government, the number will soon increase up to 2300. He said that academic session at Diphu and Lakhimpur Medical Colleges will start from next year.

Principal Secretary of Health Department Sameer Sinha in his speech informed that upgradation of Garamur Civil Hospital to a 200 bedded district hospital is presently underway and around 30% work has been completed.

Coinciding the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal distributed sanction letters to beneficiaries for different items provided by the WPTBC Department.

Minister of State for cultural affairs i/c Naba Kumar Doley, MP Pradan Baruah, MLA Bimal Bora, CEM of Mising Autonomous Council Paramananda Chayengia, CEM of Deuri Autonomous Council Madhav Deuri, former minister Padmeswar Doley and host of other dignitaries were present in the programme.
