Sarupathar Police to deal with lockdown violators strictly

SARUPATHAR: As India began its three-week lockdown on March 24, dramatic photos and videos started surfacing showing police across India using extreme force against violators of the lockdown.

Many people in Sarupathar, Barpathar, Naojan and Uriamghat along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district were out on the roads during these days, violating prohibitory orders. The police had warned the people not to come on the roads and avoid mass gathering to prevent the spread of COVID-19. But many violated the prohibitory order and came out on the roads. However, movement of individuals, except those involved in emergency duties, is strictly prohibited during the period of lockdown.

Meanwhile, Pranjal Bora, SDPO of Dhansiri subdivision, said police would do anything to enforce all prohibitory orders. “We will strictly deal with lockdown violators as it puts people’s lives at risk,” he said.
