LAKHIMPUR: A school bus rolled down into a roadside ditch on Tuesday at Laluk in Lakhimpur district around 7.45 am. Fortunately, as many as 15 students in the bus had a narrow escape from sustaining major injuries in the accident. As per report, the school bus of Gyan Academy of Harmutty, bearing registration number AS-01 DC 9296, was coming along Laluk-Bihpuriya connecting road towards Laluk Tiniali. At that time, a passenger tempo with registration number AS-07 AC 5298, going towards Bongalmora from the opposite direction at a high speed, suddenly came in front of the school bus. The bus rolled down into the roadside ditch after losing control. The local people rescued the students by breaking the hinder glasses of the bus and they were shifted to Laluk Hospital. They were released after first aid as they sustained minor injuries.

The local people alleged that the accident took place due to the carefree movement of light passenger vehicle. It was also alleged that such kind of vehicles were always out of control at Laluk. In this regard, they lambasted the Lakhimpur district traffic police department which allegedly does not care about controlling the light passenger vehicles in the upcoming township area despite frequent demands. The people demanded the department concerned and Lakhimpur district administration to introduce a strict traffic system in Laluk immediately before a major accident takes place.
