Scrap CAA without any condition, demands Lakhimpur AASU

LAKHIMPUR: The district of Lakhimpur was once again rocked with intensified stir initiated by the district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Monday against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. Notably, the organization has resumed its stir, which was halted temporarily due to COVID-19 pandemic situation, from Monday to demand the immediate withdrawal of the contentious Act.

Strongly opposing the Act, Lakhimpur AASU staged 'Gana Abasthan' in North Lakhimpur town on Monday. By staging the protest, the organization demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government to withdraw the Act without any condition. The Lakhimpur district units of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Assam Koch Rajbonshi Students' Union (AKRSU), Anusuchito Jati Yuva Chatra Parishad, Gorkha Students' Union and other organizations extended their support to the stir and their activists took part in the protest programme.

During the protest programme, the protesters rocked the environment by shouting slogans against the Act and BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State for patronizing the alleged communal Act.

Lakhimpur AASU general secretary Dhanmoni Dutta said that the stir against the contentious Act would once again be extended to the rural areas very soon. "We will intensify our agitation with the help of mass support and it will go on until and unless the Act is scrapped," Dhanmoni Dutta declared.

Notably, the representatives of the organizations, who were present in the protest programme, took strong resolution to intensify the stir against the CAA in the upcoming days.

DOOMDOOMA: With active cooperation of various parties and organizations, Doomdooma Regional Students' Union staged three-hour sit-in on Monday in front of the entrance of Doomdooma Town Field for repeal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and Draft Environmental Impact Assessment, 2020. A number of organizations like Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and Doomdooma Press Club offered moral support to the regional unit of AASU and shouted slogans.

Uttam Baruah and Pratim Neog, president and secretary respectively of Doomdooma Regional Students' Union, said that there would be no let-up of this agitation till CAA was repealed by the BJP government.
