TANGLA: A screening and medical check-up camp for identification of persons with disabilities was held at Tangla Chatgari MV School in Tangla town of Udalguri district on Thursday.

The event was organized by the Social Welfare Department of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), in collaboration with the People's Aid NGO. More than 500 people in serpentine queues gathered at the venue door to get themselves screened for the issuance of disability certificates to avail various government schemes. According to reports, four specialized doctors conducted the screening and check up.

Udalguri DSWO-cum-CDPO Nilakshi Bordoloi said, "The screening and medical check-up camp for identification of persons with disabilities will continue and three such camps have already been hosted in the district."

Sources said the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) authorities have laid special emphasis on conducting such camps as many persons with disabilities have not been able to get certificates and thereby have been deprived of government facilities. The BTC authorities will conduct a number of such screening camps in other parts of BTR with an estimated target upto 18,000 beneficiaries.
