Seminar on Environment Degradation held at Charing Swahid Maniram Dewan College

GAURISAGAR: “Nobody can save our earth without trees. In the present day context, despite the invention of developed technology, without a green environment, no power can save the earth. The age of the earth is gradually decreasing due to deforestation, population exploration, and rapid urbanization. If this trend is not stopped in due time, it will create a big problem for the people of the world,” said Padma Shri, Forest Man of India Jadav Payeng while delivering his lecture on environment degradation and re-plantation held at Charing Swahid Maniram Dewan (SMD) College on Tuesday, organized by College NSS cell in the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district.

Addressing the gathering, the world acclaimed environmentalist Jadav Payeng urged upon the student community to devote time for environment preservation. The seminar was conducted by Tuwaram Khanikar, former Professor of SMD College. Dr. Dibya Rajkhowa, Principal in-charge of the college, and Hemanga Rangan Chutia, Associate Professor-cum-Planning Officer NSS, were present.

In the seminar, a documentary made on the life of Jadav Payeng was screened. Before the seminar, Jadav Payeng was felicitated by the college fraternity and various local organizations.
