GUWAHATI: All seven assistants of Amritpal Singh were shifted to Punjab from Dibrugarh Airport on Thursday after being taken over by the Punjab police. The shift was done after their release from Dibrugarh Central Jail, where they were arrested under the National Security Act (NSA).

A 25-strong Punjab police party, headed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Harinder Singh Gill, flew in to take the seven persons into custody.

The aides flown in are Daljit Singh Kalsi, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh alias "Pradhan Mantri Bajeke," Basant Singh, and Gurinderpal Singh.

Official bodies provided for their transit on two distinct flights from Dibrugarh Airport so as to effect their safe and unhindered transportation process.

At the same time, the government has also chosen to extend the NSA against Amritpal Singh, as well as his intimate cohorts Papalpreet Singh and Varinder Singh Johal, until June 2025.

The decision came on the heels of the Punjab government's decision not to re-impose the NSA against the seven members of Waris Punjab De, whose two-year period of detention concluded on March 19.

Interestingly, even though in jail, Amritpal Singh emerged victorious in the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 general polls from Dibrugarh Jail, reflecting his ongoing presence in the politics of Punjab.
